According to a new report by Counterpoint Research, India has surpassed the United States as the second largest smartphone market in the world, coming in behind China.
Indian smartphone shipments grew by 15 percent annually, with more than 100 million smartphone units moved in the year.
There are now around 220 million activated smartphones in India.
Samsung is the leading mobile brand in India, with 28.6 percent of all smartphone shipments in Q4 2015.
Micromax takes second place with 14.3 percent, and Lenovo comes in third with 11.4 percent.
“The Indian smartphone demand grew strongly during the holiday season in the Q4 2015 quarter. However, the consumer demand waned since mid-November leading to smartphone shipments decline 11 percent sequentially,” said Pavel Naiya, Counterpoint Research Research Analyst
