It looks like the rumors are true, and Xiaomi is not only working on a laptop, but estimates it will be ready to ship in early 2016.
According to Xiaomi’s manufacturing partner Inventec Corp chairman Richard Lee.
Lee added, “I am upbeat about the business outlook for Xiaomi’s notebook computers, as the firm has more than 200 million registered smartphone users.”
Lee also mentioned that the laptop’s price will be like other Xiaomi products, very cheap. If the laptop is anything like the smartphones, then the hardware should be stunning.
For us at Xiaomi Ninja, the big questions is what operating system the laptop will use. There have been reports of a Linux-based OS.
Linux would be an interesting choice, since it would allow the flexibility for Xiaomi to create a MIUI equivalent desktop OS that uses a well known system as its base.
“I am not sure if the smartphone approach will be applicable to notebooks, but I expect Xiaomi’s entry into the notebook industry to bring something new to the market”, Lee added.
