A new rumor from Weibo has revealed the possibility of  the Xiaomi Mi 5 using “Qualcomm’s ultrasound fingerprint recognition technology.”

This new fingerprint scanner will reportedly be natively supported by the  Snapdragon 820 ship the device is said to contain.

Qualcomm introduced the scanner in March 2015.

With the process of using ultrasound, the scanner eliminates the requirement of a capacitive sensor.

Qualcomm will market the new mechanism as “Snapdragon Sense ID 3D Fingerprint technology.” Take a look at the video below.
