Pre-requisite:

  • TWRP installed Xiaomi Redmi 3/3 Pro.
  • Do not try this on another device.
  • Bootloader unlocked device.
  • Enable USB debugging. To do this Go to Settings->Developer options
  • At least 70% charged phone.

How to install Android Oreo based Lineage OS 15 on Redmi 3/3 Pro:

Step 1: Firstly, you need to download the ROM. Click here to download the ROM.

Step 2: Download appropriate GAPPS. Click here to download GAPPS.

Step 3: Put the downloaded file into device internal storage [Not inside any folder].

Step 4: Now boot the device into TWRP recovery mode. To do this press volume down and power button at the same time.

Step 5: Perform a factory reset. To do this go to Wipe and swipe the blue button to perform a factory reset.

Step 6: Return to recovery main menu window and click on “Install”. Now navigate to the downloaded ROM file and choose it. Then press “Add more Zip” and choose the GAPPS package. Then swipe the blue button to start flashing. Be careful that, first you have to choose ROM Zip then GAPPS package.

The whole process can take 5-10 minutes. Wait for the completion and Reboot the device when flashing is finished.

Now you have successfully installed Android Oreo based unofficial Lineage OS 15 on Xiaomi Redmi 3/3 Prime. Enjoy!

Redmi 5A India sale surpasses 1 million mark

Xiaomi has launched Redmi 5A in India back in December last year. The Redmi 5A is one of the best wallet-friendly smartphones with attractive specs and battery life.

Xiaomi India Head has announced that Xiaomi Redmi 5A sales cross 1 million in less than a month. He tweeted that “Thrilled to announce that we’ve sold 1+ Mn #Redmi5A in less than a month!”

For 2GB+16GB variant the devices were priced at Rs. 5,999 and for the 3GB+32GB variant, the price was Rs. 6,999.

However, Xiaomi offered a Rs. 1,000 discount on the first 5 million units of 2GB variant, bringing its effective price down to Rs. 4,999.Later the 3GB variant became available via offline stores and price going up to Rs. 7,499.

The successor of Xiaomi Redmi 4A comes with similar design and specs with slight changes. However, the changes are not huge from its predecessor.

The main difference is Redmi 5A features an ultra-light all-metal body over its predecessor. All other design aspects are almost same.

The Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch display with HD resolution of 1280 x 720p.

The device is powered by Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 Qualcomm MSM8917 Snapdragon 425 SoC along with Adreno 308GPU.

It features a 13MP rear camera that supports PDAF and LED flash along with a 5MP shooter. The device will be backed by a 3,000mAh battery which is slightly lower than Redmi 4A (3,120mAh).

The device will run on Nougat based MIUI 9 ROM. It also provides support for external microSD up-to 128GB. The device houses two dedicated SIM slot and one microSD card slot.

For connectivity purpose, it has support for 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and much more. The color options are Champagne Gold, Pink and Grey colors.

Xiaomi Mi Power 2 gets 5000mAh variant at $8

Xiaomi has launched a 5000mAh variant of Mi Power 2. The latest successor carries same design pattern as its predecessor.

The power bank comes with high-quality ATL lithium-polymer battery. The battery is wrapped in a single piece of scratch-resistant aluminum alloy shell.

The power bank measures 125 x 69 x 9.9mm and weighs 156g. It houses a USB output port, a micro USB input port, four LEDs for battery level indication, and a power button up in front.

The Mi Power 2 feature 9-circuit protections built-in which will protect devices from high temperature, short-circuiting, and high voltage input and output.

According to the company, it will take 3.5 hours to charge fully and can charge the Mi 4 once, the iPhone 6 1.8x, and the iPhone 5s 2.2x.

The Mi Power 2 5000mAh will be up for sale from 12 at CNY 49 (~8) via Xiaomi store, Mi Home stores, Jingdong, Lynx, and Suning.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 has been spotted online on several occasions. Recently we’ve got a new render shows the crafted design of Redmi Note 5.

Although it is not confirmed whether the device is coming or not, the price of Redmi Note 5 has surfaced online.

MIUI China Forum is hosting and listed the Redmi Note 5 as one of the prizes for the winners of the contest. On the forum post, the Redmi Note 5 has been listed at 699 Yuan (approximately $107).

However, it can be a typographic error. The company may intend to write Note 5A, which is also priced at 699 Yuan.

Recently leaked render of Redmi Note 5 shows very thin bezels which is much smaller than Redmi 5/Plus. The bottom bezel design seems to thinner then Mi Mix 2.

The leaked render also suggest that it will houses front camera and sensors sit at the top with the speaker.

If the leaked design comes true the Redmi Note 5 will be the contender for the mid-range phone with the highest screen-to-body ratio.

On the rear, the design is still Redmi-like with silver antenna lines, curved sides, and the Mi logo. However, it shows slightly different camera placement compared to the previously leaked images.

With the new feature, MIUI users can “press and hold” a button on the dial pad to quick dial a number. This convenient new feature will save time.

After you press and hold a button on the dial pad, a Quick Dial option will pop up. And then you can continue to select a contact for a quick dial. See the following figure.

Xiaomi has officially released the Kernel source of Mi Max 2.

Individual Android Developer will have a chance to further develop/improve the ROM.

Moreover, third-party custom ROM builders such as Lineage OS, Remix OS will be able to release their official Android Oreo version for the Mi Max 2.

As the official Kernel source is released, Mi Max 2 users can expect Android Nougat and Oreo-based ROM in near future.

The Mi Max 2 was launched in India back in July. The device comes with 6.44-inches display and the company only launched a single variant of the device.

The Mi Max 2 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and houses a Snapdragon 625 processor and will be backed by a massive 5,300mAh battery.

Xiaomi Partners with Oculus to Build the Next Generation of VR

Xiaomi and Oculus have announced that both companies are working together to bring two standalone VR headsets to market. It is also confirmed that the next generation VR will be Oculus Go and Xiaomi Mi VR Standalone.

Oculus has stated that- “We’re working with Xiaomi as our hardware partner for the global launch of Oculus Go and are also jointly announcing Mi VR Standalone—a VR headset based on Oculus technology exclusively for the Chinese market.”

Both Oculus Go and Mi VR Standalone house Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 Mobile VR Platform as the powerhouse.

Xiaomi has confirmed that Mi VR Standalone shares the same core hardware features and design as Oculus Go.

It also supports the Oculus Mobile SDK, enabling existing Oculus developers to easily bring their content to the Mi VR platform in China.

Hugo Barra, VP of VR at Facebook stated-“Through our partnership with Xiaomi, both Oculus Go and Mi VR Standalone represent our first step in delivering that sweet spot between mobile and PC VR. These devices will be, hands down, the easiest way to get into VR.”
